Rooted in Chengdu's traditional Spring Festival custom of "going south to seek blessings from the Auspicious Direction," the Little Fortune Gods program continues this cultural legacy. Selected children will dive into the festivities through carefully designed activities like ceremonial reenactments, festive parades, and interactive duties at the special "Fortune God Hut." Their energy and laughter will play a key role in reviving timeless traditions and spreading joy for the Year of the Horse.

The recruitment offers different paths for children of diverse backgrounds and interests. The main "Little Fortune Stars" track will select 20 talented youngsters to take part in the full temple fair experience. The "International Little Fortune Gods" track invites 5 children from overseas backgrounds to share the inclusive spirit of the Spring Festival. Adding a personal touch for the Year of the Horse, the "Little Carriers of Good Luck" track welcomes 30 children whose names or zodiac signs have a special connection to the Horse—along with their families—to join the celebrations. Additionally, "Little Blessing Bringers" will be chosen from the shrine's own junior volunteers to share festive greetings at community events across Chengdu.
Learning and Sharing: Cultural Exchange in Action
To prepare for their roles, all selected Little Fortune Gods will take part in special workshops on traditions, shrine history, Spring Festival customs, and interactive skills. During the fair, dressed in traditional attire, they will greet visitors at the Fortune God Hut with fun activities like quizzes, handing out "Wisdom Pouches," and sharing special blessing cards. Through these warm, engaging exchanges with guests from around the world, the children will grow from cultural participants into true ambassadors of heritage.
A Global Invitation
Recruitment for the "Little Fortune Stars" and "Little Carriers of Good Luck" tracks is now open to the public. The Wuhou Shrine Museum welcomes children everywhere who love culture and celebration to apply. With bright smiles and joyful hearts, they will help paint a New Year's scene where tradition meets today, local charm meets global spirit. Together, let's welcome the spring of 2026 in this historic setting and celebrate a start filled with happiness and success.
